Students Explore their Creative Sides at Off the Wall Art Show
The DSBN Education Centre is set to become home to some very interesting, thought provoking and creative artwork during the fifth annual “Off the Wall” art show taking place from February 24 to March 25. The show gives students from grades 9 -11 an opportunity to put their paintings, pictures, drawings, sculptures and other creations on display for the community and Board staff.
"This show is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their skill and creativity in the medium of their choosing," says DSBN Arts Consultant Gerda Klassen. “Visual Art also involves a great deal of risk taking and social conscience, and the Off the Wall show provides an encouraging and supportive environment for students to explore their creative sides.”
The event is not adjudicated, however a prize will be awarded for the most “Off the Wall” piece of artwork. The promotional poster for this year’s event was designed using artwork by E.L. Crossley Secondary School student Mike Hluska, whose work was recognized with the 2008 “Off the Wall” award.
Visitors are encouraged to attend the free show at the DSBN Education Centre daily from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The community is also invited to attend the show’s opening event on Tuesday, February 24. Musical entertainment will be provided by students from St. Catharines Collegiate.
