Elementary Artwork on Display at DSBN Education Centre
What do Super Mario, a beautiful sunset and a red dragon have in common?
They’re all adorning the walls of the DSBN Education Centre in St. Catharines as part of the Elementary Arts Showcase, happening from March 30 to April 23.
The show features over 70 pieces of art from public schools across the region. Students used everything from ink, to pencil crayons, watercolours and acrylics to create their works of art.
Each piece also includes a statement from the artist. “The ideas and motivations behind each piece of art are often very personal, and as such, are not easy to talk about. The artists’ statement gives the viewing public some insight into why a student chose a particular subject, the approach they took and their personal feelings about the project,” says Gerda Klassen, DSBN Arts Consultant. “Preparing an artists' statement is also an excellent literacy exercise that helps students develop their critical thinking skills."
Visitors are encouraged to attend the free show at the Education Centre (191 Carlton Street, St. Catharines) daily from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
