DSBN Students See the Change

High school students across the District School Board of Niagara are being challenged to look at their schools as they are, and imagine what they could be. The “See the Change” student video contest, presented by the DSBN student trustee senate, aims to promote positive change at schools and the Board.

The contest encourages students to show their leadership by championing an initiative to improve the high school experience for their peers. In groups of up to five, students are asked to submit videos of five minutes or less that creatively document their efforts to increase school spirit, promote student success, appreciate cultural diversity or help improve student self-esteem.

“Students spend four years in high school, and have many great ideas about how to make the experience as memorable and rewarding as possible,” says Emilia Ling, DSBN Student Trustee.

“This contest asks everyone to take their best idea and transform it into an inspiring video that can be followed up on and implemented at schools,” says Alex Ceci, DSBN Student Trustee.

Students are asked to register their participation in advance, and submissions will be accepted up until May 14. Full contest details can be found online at www.dsbn.org/seethechange.

The judging panel will be made up of members of the student trustee senate, DSBN Trustees, Board officials and broadcast media professionals. Videos will be judged according to their creativity, originality and quality of their ideas. Style and technical quality will also be considered.

The winning team will receive $1,000, with $500 going to the team and the remainder being awarded to support a school initiative. The top three videos will be screened at the “See the Change” celebration on May 21, as well as the May 26 Board meeting.
