DSBN Supports Family Literacy
Often when we think of a fair, games, cotton candy and exhilarating rides come to mind. At the Explore Our World: Canada and Beyond Family Literacy Event, families with children up to 8 years old, will be treated to a family literacy event with all of the excitement of the midway, through the world of books.
“Having strong literacy skills is so important in today’s world,” says Anne Andres-Jones, Literacy Support Teacher. “I am happy to volunteer my time to this community event. It makes reading enjoyable which motivates our students to read both at school and at home with their parents.”
Performances by the Smudge Fundays and Mad Science, literacy activities and crafts, storytelling with Lunette-Alike, free books and free snacks for children round out the event.
“The more we can do at the DSBN to encourage children and their families to read, the better,” says Andres-Jones. “A fun day at a family literacy event will make a positive and lasting impression on these young readers.”
