Aboriginal Student Success Focus of Tomorrow is Mine Conference
From May 14 -15, the District School Board of Niagara will continue its support of Aboriginal student success through the “Tomorrow is Mine: Responding to the Needs of Aboriginal Children in Public Education” conference at Brock University.
The conference, a partnership between the DSBN and the Tecumseh Centre for Aboriginal Research and Education, will bring together those working on the front lines of Aboriginal education: Elders, researchers, community members, Aboriginal counselors, teachers and administrators.
“The goal of the Tomorrow is Mine conference is to reflect the knowledge, relationships and best practices that contribute to positive outcomes for Aboriginal students,” says Alderdice. “It promises to be a very enlightening and productive event.”
“Teachers, principals, administrators and support staff at the DSBN are all committed to creating the optimal conditions for Aboriginal students to succeed in school,” says Larry Sirianni, School Support Services Administrator. “We’re very pleased to partner with the Tecumseh Centre on this important initiative.”
Workshops scheduled to take place include Aboriginal Culture and Leadership in Schools, The Seven Teachings: Aboriginal infusion in mainstream teacher education, Rites of Passage and Thinking Outside the Box: Imagining a Classroom That Celebrates Indigenous Perspectives of Science.
