Stamford Students Come Together for a Night of Food and Film

Stamford Collegiate’s aspiring filmmakers will showcase their productions on the silver screen when the school hosts its 2009 Film Festival and Charity Dinner on Saturday, May 30.

The festival will feature hilarious animated shorts, gripping dramas as well as other insightful and thought provoking pieces. One of the main highlights of the event will be a video spoof of the ever popular “Iron Chef” television show. It is a sequel to their 2005 event that featured students and teachers battling for culinary supremacy in their own version of kitchen stadium. The 2009 edition promises to be a showdown of epic proportions that is not to be missed.

Guests will also be treated to a delicious, four-course gourmet meal prepared by Fort Erie Secondary School’s (FESS) Specialist High Skills Majors students. For those who haven’t had an opportunity to sample the culinary delights served up by FESS students, this will be a real treat. Students hone their skills by running the Pomegranate Restaurant throughout the school year.

The theme of this year’s show is “Come Together”, which is appropriate given that the event will bring together students, teachers and community members to support students in Niagara. A portion of the proceeds will support student participation on the upcoming DSBNi International Home Build in El Salvador and the creation of a student bursary for Fort Erie Secondary’s Culinary Arts program. Money raised will also benefit Stamford’s breakfast program and Christmas baskets initiative.

Tickets can be purchased at a cost of $35.00 each, or $240.00 for a table of eight by contacting the school at 905-354-7409.
