DSBN Students, Staff Give the Gift of Life
Recognizing the great need for blood donors in the community, students and staff at the District School Board of Niagara are being invited to take part in the annual DSBN Blood Drive Challenge.
“There is no doubt that many people in our community are alive today because of the selfless individuals who made the decision to give blood,” said Warren Hoshizaki, DSBN Director of Education. “Throughout the year our students and staff participate in many initiatives to benefit the surrounding community. Donating blood is a powerful way to demonstrate their care and concern for others.”
The blood drive began two years ago with teachers Catharine and Dan Armstrong challenging their local communities to become donors. The drive was very successful, as more than 50 donors, many first timers, signed up to give blood. Last year, that challenge was extended to students, staff and parent communities across the District School Board of Niagara.
Canadian Blood Services estimates that every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood. Each blood donation could save up to three lives. To learn more about donating blood, or to find out if you are an eligible donor, please visit www.blood.ca.
