DSBN Student to Meet Dalai Lama
The Dalai Lama will be bringing his message of peace to Montreal on Saturday, October 3. He will deliver his address entitled “Educating the Heart: The Power of Compassion” to an audience of thousands at the Bell Centre. One of the members in the audience will be Ridgeway-Crystal Beach student Daniel Jewison, who will also have a private meeting with the Dalai Lama after he speaks.
Daniel earned this very special opportunity by being named as one of three winners of the Green Street, Peace Education Essay contest while he was a student at Bertie Public School. In his essay “Savage Earth”, Daniel argues that conflicts erupt from competition for increasingly scarce resources and therefore, conflicts between nations are primarily environmental rather than political.
“Daniel wrote a very powerful, thought provoking essay,” says Sylvia Grieco, teacher. “This is an exciting opportunity for Daniel to share his ideas with the Dalai Lama and to learn from such an accomplished and respected individual.”
