CFL Commissioner Recruits Churchill Students

In St. Catharines to help Sir Winston Churchill students and staff celebrate the school’s new electronic scoreboard, Canadian Football League Commissioner Mark Cohon couldn’t help but do a little recruiting at the same time.

But he wasn’t looking to draft any players; instead, Cohon was looking for the person who could one day be his replacement.

“After another successful season of Bulldogs football, I am inviting one player to come shadow me and become ‘Commissioner for a Day’,” said Cohon. “You will get the chance to do everything I do, whether its meetings with the union or with other owners. This will be a great learning opportunity.”

Churchill staff will choose the selection criteria for this opportunity and will name the student to intern with Cohon at the end of the season.

The Bulldog Football Alumni association began fundraising for the new scoreboard in the spring of 2008. With the support from the community, local business and elected representatives, the scoreboard was completed and installed just prior to the school’s 50th anniversary celebration in May, 2009.
