First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Supports

    Curriculum Consultant: First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education K-12, Canadian and World Studies 9-12

    The Aboriginal Consultant provides leadership for the elementary and secondary schools, developing cultural awareness in schools, implementing appropriate instructional strategies for literacy and numeracy development and on building partnerships with Aboriginal organizations.

  • Jennifer Stewart,
    First Nation, Métis and Inuit Student Support Teacher

    In an effort to increase FNMI student achievement, the DSBN has created the position of a First Nation, Métis and Inuit Student Support Teacher. This teacher provides extra academic support to FNMI elementary students during the school hours. Students who have been refered to the support teacher will have access to this support one day per cycle. Lessons will be created for specific student needs using FNMI resources and content.

  • Sheila Maracle,
    First Nation, Métis and Inuit Advisor

    The Advisor works with teachers and staff, assisting with implementation of FNMI perspectives into the curriculum. She supports students with their applications for status, post-secondary funding and for college/university/workplace. The FNMI Advisor aids students and families with connection to community supports and services. She provides cultural workshops and recruits Aboriginal students to various cultural programs both post-secondary and summer length.
