2017 - FNMI Youth Conference

Monday, June 19th, 2017
Registration: May 9th - June 12th, 2017

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

We are very pleased to share with you an opportunity for our Grade 7 and 8 Indigenous students! The third Annual Indigenous Youth Symposium will be held this spring at Queenston Heights Park on June 19, 2017. Registration must take place by June 12th.

The Indigenous Youth Symposium will focus on educating and motivating our Indigenous youth to make positive changes and become leaders in their home and school communities. We will be taking advantage of what Queenston Heights has to offer by participating in outdoor activities, such as hiking and team building initiatives as well as exploring the incredible Landscape of Nations - The Six Nations and Native Allies Commemorative Memorial.

Students will deepen their connection to the land, strengthen leadership skills, build positive attitudes, and experience cultural teachings. Students will be involved in land-based learning and team focused problem solving to increase their confidence in working alone and with others. This optional event will provide the students with an opportunity to connect with other Indigenous leaders throughout DSBN and provide you with a deeper awareness of Indigenous culture.

Students who are interested in learning more about their culture and meeting other Indigenous students from across DSBN are encouraged to register!

If you are interested in participating in this event, please take the following steps:

  1. Register online today!
  2. Complete the parent consent form
  3. Submit the consent form to your school principal

Transportation to and from Queenston Heights Park and lunch is provided by the DSBN.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there!
